Davenport — Memorial services to celebrate the life of Warren L. Schneff, 88, a resident of Davenport and a retired prominent Davenport jeweler, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in the All Faith Chapel of the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. The Rev. Ron Huber will be the celebrant of the service. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Following Warren's request, cremation rites will be accorded and private family burial will take place in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal.
Mr. Schneff died Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Warren Leonard Schneff was born May 7, 1922, in Elgin, Ill., a son of Henry W. and Lillian (Mohr) Schneff. He graduated from the former Davenport High School. Following high school, he earned his degree in Optometry from Northern Illinois College of Optometry.
He was united in marriage to Elaine M. Fidlar on October 8, 1954, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport.
Warren served our country in the U.S. Army. He served two years as an Army Medic, and during this period also served as Optometrist at the 250th General Hospital, Rheims, Frances. In April of this year he was presented with the honor of joining an "Honor Flight" to visit the World War II memorials in Washington, D.C. This was a trip the family will be forever grateful that he was able to attend.
Following his return from the war, he began a nearly 60-year career in the jewelry industry with his father, Henry W. Schneff. Eventually the name was changed to Schneff's Jewelers and Silversmiths. Warren was well-regarded by his colleagues in the jewelry industry and was a member of the American Gem Society. Schneff's Jewelers celebrated over 85 years of service prior to Warren's retirement in 2003.
He was a member of the Davenport Kiwanis Club for over 50 years, the Outing Club and the Davenport Country Club. Warren cherished spending time with his family and many friends. He enjoyed raising orchids, and was a member of the Illowa Orchid Society. Warren had also been an avid sportsman, particularly enjoying hunting and fishing.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Handicapped Development Center or Alzheimer's Association of the Quad Cities.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Elaine; daughters and a son-in-law, Ann E. and Frank McCarthy, Bettendorf, Kristine L. Schneff, Davenport, and Barbara J.
