Ensign Joe Sam Allen was the son of Joe J. and Mary Kate Allen, proprietors of a grocery store in Chickasha, Grady County, Oklahoma in 1930. Joe flew a navy fighter plane from the USS Independence, stationed in the Pacific, during World War II. He was a pilot in the Night Fighters Air Group 41 and was reported missing in action over Luzon, Philippines on 14 December, 1944 and was declared dead 15 Dec 1945. Joe was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Gravesite Details

Memorial stone is at the foot of his parents graves, Joe J. and Mary Kate Allen. The sunburst effect was unintentional, caused by the rays of the sun the day the picture was taken.
