Mrs. Frances W. Astin, age 83, of Cedar Street, Carrollton died March 26, 2009.

Mrs. Astin was born June 14, 1925 in Lebanon, Tennessee to William Wilkes and Jimmie Jackson Wilkes. She was the wife of the late Dr. Phil Carroll Astin, Jr. who preceded her in death on April 23, 2005, also preceding were her parents and a brother Joe Wilkes.

She graduated in the Class of 1945 from West Georgia College, was a Georgia Home Extension Agent in Habersham County in 1948 and 1949, taught School in Evans County from 1949 to 1959, a member of the Abraham Baldwin Chapter of the DAR and Past President of Georgia DAR, a member of the Medical Auxiliary of Georgia holding several offices, a Girl Scout leader for several year during the 1960'sat the First Baptist Church, a member of the first Carrollton High School Band Boosters Club with Don Hall in 1967 and 1968, a member of the Alumni Association of West Georgia from 1977 to 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church since 1953 and a member of the Grace Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Astin is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Phil C. Astin, III of Carrollton, George T. Astin, MD and his wife Joan, of Carrollton, W. David Astin, MD and his wife Janie of Bristol, TN; grandchildren, Kimberly and Richard Johnson, Melissa Astin, Magdelyn Astin, Allison and Jamie Bragg, Phil C. Astin, IV, Aidan Astin, Taylor Aldridge, and Molly Astin, and great grandchild Georgia Johnson and ex-daughter-in-law, Vicky Bramblett.

Funeral services will be at the First Baptist Church Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 2 pm with Dr. Steve Davis officiating. Music will be furnished by Terry Lowry.

Pallbearers include Darrell Smith, Mark Marlow, Tim Gaines, Randy Stapler, Morris Wyatt and Jerry Haynes.

Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Harlin, Randy Taylor, Tommy Sullivan and Dr. Don McGukin.

Interment will follow in the Center Point United Methodist Church cemetery.
