JOHN BLAETTNER

John Blaettner (sic), son of Henry Blaettner and Elora Miller, was born on a farm near Alexandria, Kentucky, October 11, l862. He was one of a family of ten children, five boys and five girls, all of whom are now dead; brothers: Will, Charles, George, and Albert and sister, Lizzie Horn, Mrs. Laura Schroeder, Mrs. Caroline Whitehead, Emma Payne and Mrs. Maggie Horn.

At the age of three years, he moved with his parents to a farm near Wyaconda, Missouri, where he has lived the remaining years of his life, dying there, April 7, 1949, aged 86 years

On April 17, l894, he was united marriage to Elizabeth Pechstein,daughter Conrad and Katherine Pechstein of Keokuk, Iowa. They were the parents of two daughters Mrs. Katherine Hudson and Miss Elora Blaettner.

He is survived by his two daughters, son-in-law, Freal Hudson, a great granddaughter, Mrs Elizabeth Prebe of Edina, Mo., and her husband, Edward Prebe, two grandson: Charles Taylor and George Hudson and four great grandchildren, Robert and Jack Taylor and Elsie Katherine and Ruth Elora Prebe, brother-in-law, Will Payne of Bradenton, Florida, also survives and scores of nieces, nephews and other younger relatives.

Mr. Blaettner was one of the pioneer farmers of Clark county and was instrumental in establishing an interest in fine and pure bred livestock in the county, having one of the first herds of Shorthorn cattle in the state and establishing Clark county's oldest flock of Shropshire sheep. He was always interested in newer arid better ways of farming for himself and his neighbors and until his death was a director of the Farmers Exchange and Cooperative Shipping Association, also a member of the Consumers' Cooperative Assn. The great interests of his life were in his home, family and farming operations which interest he maintained until his last days.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, April 10,conducted by the Rev. George Baskett. Songs were given by Mrs. Kenneth Fry, Mrs. B. F. Hutchinson, accompanied by Mrs. George Baskett. Pallbearers were Francis Bougeois, Pearl Smith, Roy Burkett, Raymond Schuster, and Charles Hudson and John Polhans. Burial was in Oakland cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were, Mr. and Mrs. John Pechstein, and daughter Patricia and Lester Hanley of Pekin, Ill., Mr. and Mrs Nolan Hottle of Augusta, Ill., and Herman, Nefter and sons, Edward and Walter of St. Louis, Mo.∼Buried on Mar 4, 1946 by George-Basket-Wyaconda, MO.
