Alice Frances Stevens Deweese, 85, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Emerald Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Deweese was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Leicester to the late Richard C. and Fannie Sue Roberts Stevens. She was employed as a sales clerk for K-Mart until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church. Alice was the wife of Marvin M. Deweese, who died in 1990. Also preceding her in death was her son, Stanley Marvin Deweese, sisters, Virginia Battle and Wylma Sluder and brothers, Frank, Robert, Merritt, George and Henry Stevens.

Surviving is her daughter, Marla D. King and husband, Wally King, of Leicester; grandchildren, Whitney, Heath and Logan King; sisters, Sue Capps of Winter Park, Fla., Nell Bell and Ella Cowan of Asheville and Rosa Lee Stevens of Ocala, Fla.; and brothers, Tom Stevens of Asheville and Joe Stevens of Leicester.

The funeral services will be held in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Revs. Gary Fender, Dennis Lanning and Jennis Sluder officiating. Music will be provided by the Smith Family. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Enka. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Stevens, George Stevens Jr., Dana Capps, Mike King, Phil Gillis and Gary Edmonds. Serving as an honorary pallbearer will be Dr. Leslie Smart.
