BASS - ELLIS

CLAY CENTER Mar 18— Evertt (sic) Ellis of Clay Center and Miss Ruby Bass of Lincoln were married on March 5 in Lincoln by Judge Reid. The couple were attended by the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Bass, her sister, Miss Leona Bass, and Richard Larfen. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis arrived in this city Tuesday where they will be at home to their friends after March 15. Mr. Ellis is part owner of the Wilson-Ellis barber shop.

Everett Ellis is reported as killed

MM 1/c Ellis. Everett Ellis, 39, machinist's mate first class in the U. S. naval reserve, previously reported missin (sic) is now officially listed as dead, a victim of the Bismarck Sea sinking Feb. 21 off Iwo. From 1930 until his enlistment in thhe (sic) navy in February, 1942, he operated a barber shop at 2642 O. Lincoln. His wife. Ruby, is now living In California. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Emma Ellis, Clay Center and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Easter, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Charlie Bevilhimer, East Peoria, Ill.

After enlisting in the navy Ellis took boot training at San Diego and later machinist training at San Francisco. In October, 1942, he was sent overseas where he saw service at Pearl Harbor and in the Marianas. After two years he was sent to the States on furlough and further training from February until September, 1944, when he was sent out on the new Bismarck Sea.

According to word from the Navy department received by Mrs. Charile (sic) Bevilhimer, 335 McKinley avenue (sic), East Peoria, Illinois, all hope has been abandoned for the recovery of her brother Everett Ellis, motor machinist first class, reported missing in action on March 5. He was aboard an aircraft carrier in the area around Iwo Jima when his ship was sunk on February 21. Besides his sister, he leaves a wife in Calgary, Canada; his mother, Mrs. Emma Ellis, at Clay Center, Nebraska; and another sister, Mrs. Ida Easter, in Long Beach, California. 38 years old, he had been in the Navy since February, 1942.
