Pearl Gold Aldrich, EdD
Dr. Aldrich died in her home in Charlotte, NC, on January 2, 2007. The daughter of Rose and Abraham Gold, she was born in Camden, NJ, on February 25, 1922, and was raised in Miami, Florida.
She served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1946 and was an officer in the Woman's Army Corps, serving from 1949 to 1955. She received a B.A. from the University of Miami, an M.A. from the University of Arizona and an EdD from Ball State University. She taught in public schools in California and was a member of the English faculty at Frostburg State University, Frostburg, MD. After leaving Frostburg, she worked as an editor in Washington, D.C, and later was president of PGA Associates, a writing consulting firm.
Dr. Aldrich is the author of three textbooks and has been published in The Washington Post, the Miami Herald, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and Research in the Teaching of English. She was a member of the international literature honor society, Lambda Iota Tau, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Mensa, Sisters in Crime and the Association of Women in Communications.
Dr. Aldrich is survived by one sister, Evelyn Cutler of Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, three nieces and two nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the LG Shandloff Memorial Fund, c/o David Shandloff, 3709 S. George Mason Dr. Apt. 208E, Falls Church, VA 22041-3700.
