Graduated from Mt. Holyoke College and began her career as acting librarian for the J.V. Fletcher Library in 1919, replacing a Miss Bunce. In 1920, she was appointed full-time librarian. She held that position until she resigned on 5/31/1960, after 40 years of service.
May was my great-aunt, and I remember very little about her other than some of her eccentricities. She was the consummate packrat, and would send "used" birthday cards to my siblings and me, using stickers to cover over the names of previous recipients. On Sunday evenings, she had popcorn for dinner; and Monday morning breakfast was invariably cold popcorn in milk.
