The following information is from Dennis Brandt (#47232334)

The son of Adam & Mary Hocker, in 1860, he was a laborer living in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County. He stood 5' 8" and had light hair and light eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Cumberland County September 15, 1862, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 23 as a private with Co. F, 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry (162nd Pa), and captured June 28, 1864, at Summit Point, West Virginia. He was incarcerated first at Richmond, then in the stockade at Salisbury, North Carolina, paroled February 24, 1865, and discharged by general order June 28, 1865.

He married Frances Rebecca Steigleman January 18, 1866, in Cumberland County and fathered Mary (b. @1867), Emma Kate (b. 05/28/68 - married a Keefer), Flora S. (b. 02/20/70 - married John E. Golden), Bertie H. (b. 03/27/73 - married Amos L. Leidig), George Adam (b. 01/25/75), and Grace M. (b. 09/08/78 - married George McClellan Keller).

Levi Hocker, residing in South Middleton township, about one mile west of Mt. Holly, died yesterday morning at 3 o'clock, aged 56 years. He had been a sufferer of stomach troubles for the past twenty years. Four years ago Mr. Hocker purchased the John Roger farm and moved from Franklin county. A wife and six children survive. Funeral at 1 o'clock on Friday. Interment at Mount Holly Cemetery.
