Elias Pelton, brother of Jesse, was the second man who settled in Gusstavus with his family. His daughter Barbara, afterwards the wife of Hezekiah Barnes, was the first white child in the township who survived. She died in 1881. Her brother Gustavus Storrs Pelton was the first white male born in the township.
