He was serving with Combined Force Sangin deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Marine Taylor was killed in an explosion while on a foot patrol near Sangin, Helmand province.
Aged 21, from Buxton, Derbyshire. Following in the footsteps of his brother Liam, Scott joined the Royal Marines in September 2007 at age 18. On completion of training, he took part in numerous exercises, most notably TAURUS 09, the largest Royal Naval deployment in over 10 years, participating in ceremonial duties in Gibraltar and multinational exercises in Cyprus and Turkey. He then completed an arduous jungle warfare training course in Brunei. In April 2010, his unit deployed to Afghanistan operating out of Patrol Base Jamil. Due to his maturity and diligent nature, he had been selected to be the lead man for his section, responsible for clearing a safe path for the others in the patrol. He was strong, fit and known for his dedication in the gym. Friends remembered him as a very calm, laid back person with a positive attitude and wicked sense of humour.
Marine Taylor's family released the following statement, "Scotty was the perfect son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend who would do anything for anybody no matter who they were, always caring and respectful. He loved his family and lit up the room with his smile. He had a wicked sense of humour and was loyal, caring and brave, never showing pain. He will leave a void in everyone's lives who knew him that can never be filled." He is survived by his parents Steven and Jayne, and his brother Liam, grandparents John, Peggy, Brenda, along with other family and friends.
Marine Scott Taylor's body was escorted home to England by his brother, Marine Liam Taylor, who also served in Afghanistan.
Funeral with full military honours was held at St Peter's Church, Fairfield on June 21, 2010.
