Thomas Smith Ragsdale was born in Tennessee to John Henry Ragsdale and Susan Marie Lemay. (His Death Certificate states that his father was W. H. Ragsdale)
His family moved to Texas where he met Teresa Joe Wartham
and the two were married in 1872. They made their home in Palestine, Anderson, Texas. Thomas was a lift inspector and installer with I&GN RR. His job required him to travel but not often far from home. One Local newspaper referred to TS as being the "International Lift Installer".
Thomas was the father of four children:
