Orangeburg - Funeral services for Harold Eugene "Gene" Arant, 76, of 1140 Pruitt Drive, Orangeburg, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Terry Peele officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Parker Dempsey, Rick Rabun, John Ecton, Mike Fanning, Charles Thompson, Ted Andrae, Clayton Weeks, Cliff McKinney and Nunnie Smith. Mr. Arant died Friday, Dec. 16, at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. He was born in North, a son of the late Jacob and Salley A. Arant. He owned and operated Arant Timber Co. He was a member of the S.C. Forestry Association and a Mason. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband and father. Mr. Arant was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving in Europe and was privileged to visit most countries in Europe during his tour. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Pooser Arant of the home; two daughters, Sonya Jean Arant and Sherrie Jean Arant, both of Orangeburg; one brother, Osborne Arant of North; sister, Marjorie Barber of North. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home of Orangeburg. At other times friends may call at the residence and the funeral home.
