Jay B. Sackett, 52, of Pierron died Saturday, July 31, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 2 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and from 8 to 10 a.m. on Aug. 3 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Aug. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, with the Rev. Christopher W. Hill, senior pastor of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, officiating. Burial will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland.
He was born April 1, 1958, in Chicago to Billy and Joan (Oberbeck) Sackett. On March 14, 1981, he married Mary Kay Hock, who survives in Pierron.
Mr. Sackett grew up in Highland and graduated from Highland High School in 1976. He was a 1980 graduate of Illinois State University in Normal. He worked at Oberbeck Grain Co. and Jefferson Smurfit, both of Highland; Gund Co. in St. Louis, Mo.; United Stationers in Greenville; and B-Line Systems in Highland. He enjoyed golf, watching basketball and watching football with his wife. He also liked to cook and loved animals.
He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland.
Other survivors include his mother, who lives in Highland; son, Richard D. (Erika) Sackett of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; a daughter, Kristina K. (Aaron) Strasen of Highland; a sister, Traci J. (Robert) Luitjohan of Highland; and grandchildren, Kaydence A. Sackett and Caleb N. Knapp, both of Sierra Vista, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his father, who died on June 19, 2007.
