Anna Marie Buttell, daughter of Ambrose and Caroline Wachter, was born in Erie, Pa., July 3, 1858. She died June 12, 1945, at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Paul Welch in Sutton, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 9 days.
In 18164 she moved with her parents to Lincoln, Ill., where she spent her girlhood days. April 6, 1880, she was united in marriage to Anthony Buttell. In the spring of 1893 they moved to Nebraska and resided on a farm southeast of Sutton in Fillmore county for many years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary there in 1930.
To this union eleven children were born, six girls and five boys. Her husband and four children preceded her in death. The deceased children are Mary Elizabeth Schmal, Sr. Mary Juanita, Caroline and Anthony, who died in infancy.
She is survived by seven children: Edward, George, and Mrs. Amelia Mulvihill of Sutton., Sr. Mary Frances of New Orleans, La., Sr. M. Rita of Harbin Manchukuo; Albert of Hastings, and Cyril of Brewster, Kas. She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was a devoted mother and a faithful and active member of her church, St. Mary's until she became an invalid five years ago.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 14, at St. Mary's church in Sutton. A solemn requiem mass was celebrated by Rev. John F. Hennessey. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
