He was born October 10, 1938 in Aledo, Ill., the son of August Harry Earl and Emiline Ruth Galloway Anderson. He married Caroline S. Hurlbutt on June 11, 1971 in Altona, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Anthony Morrow of Waterloo, Iowa and Gerald Prather of Galesburg, four daughters, Angela Edmund of Galesburg, Joannie (and John) King of Toulon, Ill., Kimberly A. Prather of Monmouth, and Karry S. (and Steve) Richardson of Monmouth, nine grandchildren, two nephews, Robert Dean Anderson and Jim Anderson, a niece, Leisa Anderson, two great nieces, a great great nephew, and a step brother, Roger Dome. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father, Marvin B. Franks, and two brothers.
Larry worked as a truck driver at Thermogas, worked at Giant Foods/Econofoods, and delivered the Register Mail. He served in the United States Air Force and later served in the Army Reserves, retiring after 20 years as Staff Sergeant. Larry organized, along with Mike Allen, our local Veteran's Day Parade. He was a member of Amvets Post 8 and Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Larry was also a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the former Moose Lodge. He graduated from Aledo High School.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Jean Hembrough will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Veteran's Day Parade Committee or an education fund for Gerald Prather.
