William T. Darnell Battle Creek William T. Darnell, 101, of Battle Creek passed away Tuesday May 4, 2010 at Northpointe Woods, Pine View Assisted Living. He was born on December 8, 1908 in Dresden, TN to Samuel and Ellen (Diggs) Darnell. William married Bernice Thorburn on August 5, 1929 in Toledo, OH; she preceded him in death in 1983. He was employed by Eaton Corp. for 42 years as a superintendent, retiring in 1970. William is survived by a son, George E.(Bonnie) Darnell, of Battle Creek, two grandsons, Barton and William Darnell, 2 step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a step-daughter, Lois M. Dow and three brothers. William attended Leroy Congregational Church and Sonoma United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, and golfing, having three holes in one's during his life time. He was a former member of Battle Creek Elks Lodge #131 and a member for 45 years at Riverside Country Club. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or public service. A private service will be held for family. His ashes will be buried at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens next to his wife Bernice. Memorial contributions may be given to American Cancer Society . Arrangements are by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.
