He was deployed with the UK contingent of NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Cpl Harrison was killed in a roadside bomb explosion while on foot patrol near Patrol Base Shuga, in Sangin, Helmand Province. He was taking part in an operation in support of Afghan National Army members.
Aged 26, originally from Watford, he and his wife lived in Taunton, Somerset. Cpl Harrison enlisted in 2003 and completed commando training in December that year. He served with the Fleet Protection Group and qualified as a mortars specialist in 2005. In 2007 he completed a tour of duty in Afghanistan and recently returned from an amphibious exercise in the Mediterranean and the Far East. After passing the junior command training course, he deployed to Afghanistan as a mortar fire controller. Described as fit, bright, dedicated and incredibly courageous, "H-Bomb" was a popular and larger than life character among the unit.
Cpl Harrison is survived by his wife Rebecca, parents Martin and Gill, older brother Russ, along with other family and friends. In a statement, his parents said, "We have lost a wonderful and loving son and brother who was devoted to "Becky" his wife, and all of his family. He was an outstanding young man with qualities way beyond his young years. We are extremely proud of our son Chris and what he achieved in his short but exceptional life, we will preserve his memory forever." His widow said, "This is the most devastating news of my life. I have lost the most fantastic husband I could ever have wished for. Even though I knew and fully supported what Chris did as a Royal Marine and the dangers he was facing, I am still broken by his loss."
Funeral with full military honours was held on May 26, 2010 at St Mary's Church, Watford.
