Gino Ricci died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson. He was 86.
A Jackson native, Mr. Ricci was born April 1, 1923, to Basillo "Dolly" and Anna Ricci. He attended school in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School in 1941. He then attended a barber college in Sacramento. After graduating from the barber college, he returned to Jackson to work at his father's barbershop, The Ideal Barber Shop, which his father started in 1913. Mr. Ricci enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served in Europe during World War II. He then returned to continue barbering with his father. After his father's death in 1966, the shop's name was changed to Gino's Barber Shop, where he continued barbering until January 2010. Mr. Ricci was always happy that he was able to work on Main Street barbering for 69 years, enjoying his friends, customers and the many changes he watched take place.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Ricci; daughters Gina (Norman) Oneto of Jackson, Nanette Sorensen of Tracy and Claudia (Kevin) Quinn of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren Devin Sorensen of San Pedro, Hillary Oneto of St. Louis, Mo., and Arianna and Angelo Oneto of Jackson. He was preceded in death by sister Olga Marie Moore.
