Verna Mae Root-Belport was born Sept 7, 1925, in Dodge City, Kan., and entered her eternal life on April 3, 2010. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; and husband of 56 years Donald L. Root.
Verna married Donald on Sept 15, 1943, and two years later moved to Pueblo, Colo., to build their life and raise their eight children: Donna M.Cox (Vern) of Cabot, Ark., Ronald (Earlene) Root, Robert (Kathy) Root, Barbara J Root, Katherine L Root of Harrisburg, Pa., Darrell (Kathy) Root of Littleton, Colo., Donald (Shelli) Root and Sherri (Joe) Padilla, ten grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren,
Verna was married to Clifford Belport in 2002, until his death in 2009.
Verna was a devoted Catholic, having attended Sacred Heart Cathedral and then St. Leander.
Viewing, 4.30 to 7pm. Wednesday April 7, and funeral, 11am Thursday April 8, both at T.G. McCarthy Funeral Home, Interment, Imperial Garden Cemetery.
