DAVENPORT — Funeral services for James M. Jones, 73, of Davenport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2010.

Interment will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Jones died on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Davenport.

James Mason Jones was born in Davenport on August 4, 1936, a son of James and Doloris (Schroeder) Jones. He served in the United States Army from 1956-1958. He worked for 20 years at Alcoa in Davenport.

Mr. Jones was a professional umpire for the Midwest League and Pony League. He was an avid New York Yankees fan and also any team that played the Chicago Cubs. Mr. Jones enjoyed bowling and also spreading his love of baseball with his cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He is survived by his cousin and caretaker for 35 years, Delores (Ronald) Goossens, of Davenport; an uncle, John R. Hedden, of Davenport; four cousins, all of Davenport, Alicia Goossens, Emily Goossens, Analicia Lopez, and Avalina Lopez; three sisters, all of Davenport, Patsy (Ken) Welzenbach, Vicki (Stephen) Schneider, and Gail (Russ) Septer; five brothers, Robert (Zelda) Jones, of Davenport, Richard (Cathy) Jones, of Camas, Wash., Gerald (Charlene) Jones, of Peru, Ill., Squeek (Sandy) Jones, of Davenport, and Steve Jones, of Davenport; 24 nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather and mother, Francis "Dutch" and Doloris Jones McKee, his father, James R. Jones, two brothers, Melvin J. Jones and Dennis K. Jones, and an aunt, Arleen Hedden.
