Joseph Vader Carter, (my grandfather) was born April 07, 1879 in Dongola, Union Co. Illinois, son of David Cambell and Amy Bennett Carter. See 1880 census Dongola, Union Co. Illinois. Grandpa Carter had two half sisters, Ann and Alice and a full brother Dennis Benjamin Carter. After the death of there father, mid? 1880's, my grandfather and his older brother Dennis were given out to other families to raise, my grandfather was raised my a Copper family in Wayne Co. Missouri,he told of being let out of a wagon and to walk through a corn field to the cooper house, he was not to see his brother again until they were grown young men, when they found one another they had been living not far apart, and only saw his mother one time when she looked him up when he was about 18, wanting him to help support her and a young daughter(half sister), he refused. In late 1900 he moved to Malvern, Hot Spring Co. Arkansas where he met and married my grandmother,Evelyn Cecilla Marine on August 25, 1902.
I do not know who raised uncle Dennis, I remember seeing him one time about 1955 when he came to Malvern Arkansas to see grandpa Carter. Just found on May 3, 2012 that uncle Dennis is buried with his second wife Judie Eveline Foust White, in State Line Cemetery, Fulton County Arkansas. Uncle Dennis and his first wife,(Saphronia C. Jackson 1879-1903)had one living child,Nancy Ann Carter, who lived to be 102 years old, born Jan. 16, 1901 in Missouri died August 20, 2003 in Swartz Creek, Genesee, Michigan.buried at Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, Grand Blanc Michigan.
