Robert Joseph Alexander, 66, of rural Wabash, Indiana died at 10:33 p.m. Sunday, May 24, 2009 at his home. He was born June 20, 1942 in Wabash County, Indiana to Donald J. and Eunice E. (Hoffman) Alexander.
Robert was a 1960 Noble High School graduate. He married Rita Aulbach at St. John's Catholic Church in Hartford City, Indiana on September 17, 1966. He retired from Hayes-Lemmerz in Wabash. Robert was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, 4th degree Knights of Columbus, and the Moose Lodge, all of Wabash. He was a U.S. Army veteran and spent the winter months in Bradenton, Florida. He enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, playing with his grandchildren, fishing, traveling, and playing cards.
He is survived by wife, Rita Alexander of Wabash; 2 children, Theresé (David) Mettler of Huntington, Indiana, and Kraig (Andrea) Alexander of Oxford, Michigan; 6 grandchildren, Jacob Alexander, Claire Alexander, and Kiersten Alexander, all of Oxford, Alexander Mettler, Eileen Mettler, and Ella Mettler, all of Huntington; sister, Rebecca (Lowell) Wilson of Kokomo, Indiana; and brother, Kenneth (Carolyn) Alexander of Wabash.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 188 W. Sinclair, Wabash, on Thursday, May 28, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Sextus Don officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. Preferred memorials are St. Bernard Catholic Church, Wabash County Cancer Society, or Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare and Hospice.
