Mr. and Mrs. John Baker of Villisca vicinity have received a letter from the War department confirming the telegram received which told them their son, 2nd Lt. John L. Baker was missing in action August 29, 1944, in northern Italy. Lt. Baker was pilot of a P38, a one-man plane, and had completed 19 missions over enemy territory, according to a letter which he wrote August 27 to his parents. That was the last letter they had received from him.
