Civil War Union Army Officer. He served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 8th New York Volunteer Heavy Artillery, and of the 10th New York Volunteer Infantry.

Commissioned an officer in Co B 129th New York Infantry on August 22nd 1862. Became the 8th New York Heavy Artillery on December 19th 1862. Commissioned an officer in Co S, 10th New York Infantry on June 5th 1865. Discharged on June 30th 1865 in Munson's Hill, Va
