"Dick" Richard was born at 156 Prince St., Manhattan, New York City, NY. His parents were, Richard (Diedrich) & Anna Sievers/Seavers Tienken. His father was born in Germany & his mother in New York City. His father died in 1887 of TB, when he was two. His mother later married Gevert Tienken (Richard's older brother), and he was brought up by his step-father(uncle) and mother.
He became a NYC Policeman in 1911 and retired abt. 1943, Badge #7435. He walked a beat for over 30 years. His half brother, Henry Charles Tienken was also a career patrolman for New York City for about 25 years. They both were in separate shootings and stopped the robbers in both cases.
Richard was a member of several police organizations including the Benevolent Assoc., the Honor Legion, life member of the Police Square Club of NYC and St. George Assoc.. He was also a life member of the Neptune Masonic Lodge 317, Manhattan. He married Emma Wagner of B'klyn, NY. They had two daughters, Mildred and Mrs. Dorothy Tienken Gruschow.
