George Harry Lanter, 59, of St. Joseph died at 4:15 p.m. Thursday (April 15, 2010) at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1950 at Scott Air Force Base, Il. to George J. and Kitty Billhartz Lanter. He married Rose M. Ackerman on Sept. 1, 1973 in Rantoul. She survives.

He is also survived by his mother; two children, Jennifer Zapf of Green Bay, Wisconsin and Adam Lanter of Springfield; four grandchildren, Olivia Zapf, Riley Zapf, Simon Lanter and Elliot Lanter; four sisters, Catherine Rodick of Lebanon, Il., Bernie Wood of Mascoutah, Il., Monica McCombs of Dallas, Texas and Melissa Meise of Lebanon, Il.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
