Private James Straun (misspelled on grave) is my 3X great-grandfather. He was born in Berwick-Upon-Tweed, England in 1829. He married Mary Jane Owens from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, here in the United States and they made their home in Thomaston, Connecticut. The couple had four sons: James, John, Ellsworth, and Charles. Our family is fortunate to have several letters that he wrote during his time with the 2nd CT Heavy Artillery at Fort Lyon, Alexandria, Virginia before he was captured at Cold Harbor attempting to get water for wounded soldiers. I am so very proud to be one of his descendants. Rest in peace, my hero. :) For further questions please contact me. My email address is [email protected].
