Daniel Thurber, M.D., spent most of his life in Mendon, Mass. The History of Milford says that he was one of the popular and most trusted and beloved physicians of the town in his days. He first marred Olive Penniman, daughter of John and Eunice Pond Penniman, Mar. 30, 1798, in Mendon; she passed away (age 52) in 1823 and on Oct. 25,1824 he married Harriet Taft, daughter of Fredrick and Abigail Wood Taft, Esquire. Of both marriages he died at age 69 and left no children. His widow, Mrs. Harriet Thurber (at age 44) married the widower, Adolphus Spring, on Aug. 4, 1839 in Uxbridge. She was in the census of 1850 in Uxbridge (age 55) a widow. It is unclear if she married a third time or died before 1860.

The Bicknell Cemetery, 113 Hartford Ave E, Mendon, MA 01756, is located between Plain St. & Airport Rd.

The Thurber Medical Society was named in honor of Dr Thurber after his death. The Society, which began about 1853, has met continuously since.
