Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Lostant United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ivy Silias and the Rev. Mel Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Lostant. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Mueller Funeral Home in Lostant and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Benson was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Cazenovia, Ill., to Wallace and Hulda (Herron) Robertson. She married Mervin Smaling in 1931. He was killed in 1947. She then married Charles Mason in 1950 and Richard Benson in 1954.
She graduated from Brown's Business College in Peoria. She worked at Casey's General Store in Lostant and was Village Clerk in Lostant for many years. She was a member of Lostant United Methodist Church and Order of the Eastern Star for more than 75 years.
She is survived by one daughter, Joanne Smaling Hartenbower of rural Lostant; one son, Oral (Donna Heider) Smaling of Normal; one stepson, Richard Benson Jr. of Jordan, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, one sister and two brothers.
