Blanche A. (Willison) Crabtree was the daughter of Union Civil War Veteran David Luther Willison (1847-1928) and Delilah Scott (1850-1941).
She was the wife of James Lewis Crabtree (1889-1972).

Blanche Crabtree (my grandmother) died in Spokane WA. Her husband James Crabtree (my grandfather) is the Crabtree who died in Colbert while living on my parents farm.
She died from complications of a stroke which had hospitalized her for 3 years.

Blanche suffered a stroke that left her both mentally and physically impaired. She spent the last 3 years of her life as a patient in the Holy Family Hospital long term care unit located in Spokane WA. She had no control over the right side of her body from her eye to her foot. In her mind she was still 18 to 20 years old and all of her visitors became her friends and/or family in 1904 - 1906.
Her bills exceeded Social Security payments forcing her husband, James L. Crabtree (my grandfather) to sell his house in Spokane and move in with his daughter Bernice M. Aylor and her husband Earl R. Aylor (my parents) on their farm in Colbert WA.
James filled out a change of address from Spokane to Colbert for both himself and Blanche. In the case of Blanche it was solely a paper work exercise so that he would receive her mail and bills.
I was only 16 when she had her stroke. Unable to comprehend what she was going through at the time I was initially hopeful she would recover. However as the years passed and she became worse I came to dread our weekly visits. When she finally passed I was thankful I would not have to visit her again. This soon turned into guilt that I carried for many, many years.
Now in my 60's I have come to terms with my guilt and would like to add this brief note to her memorial.
