Delphine Joy Bowman, age 79, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at the University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis. Del was born on August 12, 1925, in Spooner, in the Lake of the Woods County, Minnesota; to the late Helge and Nellie Palmquist. She attended and graduated from Baudette High School in 1943. Among her fondest memories were growing up along the Rainy River with her parents, sisters, brother and friends in Spooner on the east side of the Village of Baudette. Beginning immediately after high school and during World War 11, Del worked as a welder building Victory Ships in the Portland, Oregon shipyards. In 1945, she married Les Bowman, also of Baudette, at the "Hitching Post Wedding Chapel" in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho in 1945.

In the 1950's and 60's, Del and her family lived in a number of places during the post war construction boom including fifteen years in Silver Bay, Minnesota, and eventually settled in International Falls in 1969, where she made her home until her death. Although Del considered herself a homemaker, she also worked outside the home and loved her last job and Deli at Paulbeck's SuperValu grocery store.

Del was a member of the Eastern Star and for many years was active in TOPS. Del loved to cook and to make arts and crafts for her children, grandchildren and many friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant son, Roland, her sister, Gloria (Harvey) Dillon, and an infant brother.

According to her detailed instructions, Del's remains will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2005, at the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook, Mn. Rev. David Solberg will be the officiant. Inturnment will be in the Cook Community Cemetery.
