He grew up in Bell County, Texas in Belton and Salado and joined WW1 in late December 1918 as a Balloonist with the 96th Balloon Corps....from 1918 - 1919 Bill was stationed at Camp John Wise in San Antonio working in civil service on airplanes and as an instructor for civilian employees.... on the 1920 Census of Belton he was found working as a Carpenter. On the first day of September, 1923 he married the former Elsie Mae Norris in Milam County Texas. Together they lived in Temple, Bell County before moving to SanAntonio in July 1941 where Bill worked as an airplane mechanic at Goodfellow Field....Doris Mae was born in 1926 and his son Donald was born in 1939....Bill Burnham and his wife Elsie Norris Burnham were my Great Uncle and Great Aunt and I am proud to have known them and remember them in this manner...rest in peace Uncle Bill.....

William Isaac Burnham, age 95 of 526 Baker Street went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 20, 1992 at 8:48 AM
He was born Dec 29, 1896, to Giles and Lou Ella Burnham in the Cedar Knob Community in Bell County, Texas.
Mr Burnham was the last surviving member of the 96th Balloon Corp stationed at Camp John Wise in San Antonio, Texas during World War 1. He joined the Army December 29, 1921.
He married Elsie Mae Norris September 1, 1923 in Milam County. They made their home in Temple, Texas until January of 1941, where he was a Mechanic.
The family moved to San Antonio and in July, 1941 they moved to Goodfellow Field, where he worked as an Aircraft engine mechanic until retiring in December 1966 at the age of 70.
He was in charge of erecting the plane which was originally in Santa Fe Park and is now at the South Gate of Goodfellow Air Force Base.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Mae Norris Burnham, one daughter Doris Mae Burnham Schmidt of San Angelo; one son Don Burnham of Carrollton; two brothers, Olin Burnham of Midland and Fisher Burnham of Austin; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr Burnham was a member Immanuel Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be at 10 AM Monday in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, officiated by Portis Ribble of West Angelo Church of Christ. Johnson's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The Family will be at 526 Baker Street. Mr Burnham was loved by all and we will miss him !
