W.H. Greenwood of Banta, Dies

One of Morgan County's oldest residents, William H. Greenwood, 88 years of age, passed away Tuesday evening at 8:45 o'clock. He had been ill for the past three months with a complication of diseases. Mr. Greenwood had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Daisy Brown, near Banta, for the past 16 years, but due to her illness, he had been taken to a nursing home in Indianapolis four weeks ago, where he passed away.
He was the son of Lemuel and Nancy Dunn Greenwood and was born February 7, 1859. In ten more days he would have been 89 years of age. He was married to Mary Catherine Knox on February 18, 1880 and they lived together 67 years. She passed away on December 15, 1946. Mr. Greenwood had lived on the farm in Green Township, entered by his grandparents in 1831, for eighty-four years.
He was a member of the New Harmony Methodist Church and was always active in church work. He had always been a farmer and orchardist and was an ardent Democrat all his life.
Survivors include the daughter with whom he lived, Mrs. Daisy Brown, one son Charles Greenwood of Walterboro, South Carolina, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Last rites will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Methodist Church at Banta and interment will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery near there.
Due to the illness of his daughter, the body will lie in state at the Harvey Funeral Home in Mooresville until 1:00 o'clock Saturday and will then be taken to the church at Banta.
