I wonder if they were some how Related As Both Died while Mining, And are now buried about 30 Feet from each other. The two color photos were taken in 1998 to show you what the Gold Hill Nevada City Cemetery Looks Like Today.∼This is clearly the same person as John Scott, only Mr. Rickards misread his photograph and had given this one a death date of 3 June instead of 5 June, and an age of 23 instead of 33, leading to him making up a birthdate in 1862 instead of 1852 for this one versus the other one, which was probably been based on the (more accurate) 1950's DAR transcriptions (as there is no gravestone photo there):
