At the age of 9 Edgar's mother Clara passed away. His Aunt Blanche Thompson took Edgar and his brothers Philip and Clarence and raised them. Edgar graduated from Rushville High School.
In 1940 Edgar enlisted in the Army. He served his country until 1945. Ed was in the 2nd service squadron of the 5th Air Force in the Pacific as a machinist. The last part of 1945 he was stationed at Harvard, Nebraska.
In 1946 he came to Edgar, NE and was in partnership with the Gerdes Implement Company. Upon the death of Mr. Gerdes, Edgar became the sole owner for 30 years of what became Bussell Implement Company.
On June 6, 1948 Edgar was united in marriage to Verda Gingrich. The couple celebrated 61 years in 2009.
Edgar was a member of the Church of the Plains in Edgar, NE; Order of Eastern Star, Nelson Chapter Lodge #77, Scottish Rite in Hastings, NE and the Nebraska York Rite.
His family will always remember him for his wonderful smile, sense of humor and kindness shown to others and the love shown to his wife.
He is survived by his wife Verda Bussell of Edgar, NE; his nephew Kenneth Bussell and wife Helen; niece Jayne (Bussell) McClellan and niece Carol Reese; nephew Tom Gingrich and wife Susie and JoJanet (Gingrich) Lausterer and husband Jack.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday 2:00 PM at the Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Edgar, NE. Pastors Stephen Price Gibson and Ellen Campbell will be officiating. Burial will be held in the Fairfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10 am to 7 pm. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
