Funeral services for Vada Herd, 85, of Topeka, Kan., were held Wednesday, March 15 at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Gainesville, Burial was in Lutie Cemetery.

Mrs. Herd died March 11, 2006, at Hickory Point Nursing Center in Oskaloosa, Kan. She was born June 16, 1920, in Ocie, the daughter of Claude and Flossie (Hampton) Cole. She married Fred Herd July 1, 1939, in Ocie.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Herd is survived by her husband, Fred; two sons, Bobby Herd of McClouth, Kan., and Don Herd of Lexington, N.C.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Billy Cole of Kirbyville; and one sister, Nina Stehle of Theodosia.

She was preceded in death by one son, Thomas Dean Herd; her parents; and two sisters, Alma Rhoads and Ama Cole.

Pallbearers were Greg Herd, Keith Herd, Don Herd, Bobby Herd, Mitch Herd and Arthur Stehle.

Honorary pallbearers were Bill Cole, Rocky Stehle, Richard Stehle, Wendel Tabor, Billy Joe Herd and Bobby Gene Herd,
