Clark Brant, 76 years old, a pioneer tinner of this County and a veteran of the Civil War, died at the Soldiers' Homes Hospital about 5:30 o'clock yesterday morning, Oct. 28, 1910. He was afflicted with paralysis with which he was stricken about a year ago. He was by no means rendered helpless and was walking around in his ward hardly an hour before he died. His sudden death was a great shock to his relatives and many friends by all of whom he was held in high regard. He was taken ill at his home east of the City some time ago and was taken to the Home hospital. Mr. Brant was born in Piqua, O., almost seventy-seven year[s] ago and came to Georgetown, Ill, fifty-nine years ago and began work at his trade of tinner. He married Sarah E. Hickman of that place in 1853, at Georgetown. She died a few years later. The family moved to Danville on May 13, 1865, and occupied the property at the southwest corner of Franklin and north Streets. About twenty years ago the family moved to a small farm east of the City on the Covington Road. He had a tin shop near his home and also in this City and made daily trips to Danville, Mr. Brant married his second wife in this City thirty-two years ago. She was Josie Hurley, who died eighteen years ago. His children by his first wife are O. C. and E. H. Brant, both Danville tinners, and by the second wife Harry Brant, of Pana, III., Mrs. Pearl Dye of near Gessie, Ind., and Mrs. Ethel Lucas, of 1913 East Fairchild Street, of this City. Brant served in the war with Company C of the Seventy-third Illinois infantry. He moved to Danville following the war and took employment with William Brown, who conducted a hardware business. Later he worked for McDonald Bros.,and Yeomans & Leseure. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of O. C. Brant, 912 East Fairchild Street.
