OBITUARIES
GOLDIE LICILE (KELLEY) [CARTER] GILLIAM
Goldie Lucille (Kelley) Gilliam passed away on March 15, 2010 in Salem, Oregon. Goldie was born May 6, 1918 in La Grande, Oregon to Edgar Harbor Kelley and Nellie Ellen Wilson. She married Herbert W. Carter in 1941 and Jack G. Gilliam in 1982. Goldie was a homemaker, loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife. After raising her family in Salem, Oregon, Goldie spent several years living in Florence, Oregon. While in Florence, Goldie resided in the Greentrees community where she made several life long friends. She enjoyed spending time gardening, entertaining family and friends, enjoying the beach and attending the Presbyterian Church. In her later years, Goldie returned to Salem to be closer to her family. Goldie is survived by her daughter Dianne Petersen (Harold Petersen) of Springfield, Oregon and sons Doug Carter and Jeff Carter (Robin Freeman) of Salem, Oregon. Goldie is also survived by her brother Edgar H. Kelley (Ester Kelley) of Eugene, Oregon. Goldie has four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Goldie was mother to others as well, including her nephew John Kelley and step-daughter Betsy Gilliam of Washington. After hearing of her passing, a childhood friend of Goldie's daughters wrote the family that "Goldie was one of those special angels that help guide us through life and she certainly helped me as a child and young adult and I adored her. She was my second Mother." Goldie was pre deceased by her spouses Herbert Carter and Jack Gilliam, infant son and daughter Patricia Carter. Goldie will be remembered for her beautiful smile, sense of humor and loving kindness to all who knew her. She will also be missed by her "girls", two Newfoundland dogs she help raise from puppies that she adored and they adored her. We were so blessed to have you in our lives. You will be missed by all who knew you. According to her wishes, there will be no memorial service. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
