Dr. Bodenheimer graduated from LSU and became a pediatrician. Dr. Bodenheimer was also the president and historian of the Shrevport Medical Society during the 1920's. He was a tireless advocate for children's health, vaccinations, and free medical care for indigent families.
In the early 1900's Dr. Bodenheimer teamed up with Mary DeGarmo to establish "Scientific Better Baby" Competitions. These were a forerunner to beauty pageants, however, these contests relied on measurements formulated by Dr. Bodenheimer. Those measurements would include physical and intelligence markers for the fittest and healthiest baby/child. Most of these contests were evented at the Louisiana State Fairs and included trophies, sashes, and other pageant type awards to the winners.
Dr. Bodenheimer was married to Lucille Levy. Their children were Bertha Omega and Elias Bodenheimer. Dr. Bodenheimer had the following siblings: Harriet Bodenheimer Goldsmith and Gabriel Bodenheimer.
