Baker Canfield, resident of Detroit, MI enlisted at the age of 28 on 9 May 1862 as a Blacksmith in Detroit, MI serving the state of Michigan and survived the war. He enlisted in Company S, Michigan 5th Cavalry Regiment on 05 Sep 1862. Mustered out on 15 May 1863 at Fairfax Court House, VA.

Ancestry family tree records show he was the son of Joseph Henry Canfield and Mariette Root. He married Elvira C on Feb 6, 1857 in Ann Arbor, Washtenaw Co., MI. They were the parents of Lelia Nell, Edwin J., Arthur H., and Daisy C. Canfield.
