Fred Booth Jr., a special effects carpenter in the motion picture industry for 30 years, died Monday at a local hospital. He was 84.

During his career, Booth worked on many motion pictures and television series, including "Gilligan's Island." He was a former employee of Mobile Shipyard.

Booth was a native of California who retired in Citronelle. He was active in the Prospectors Club of Southern California and numerous other camping clubs. He enjoyed Country Music Nights at Dixie Jam and the Mobile Country Association, and also was involved in the annual Civil War re-enactment in Citronelle.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Florence Booth of Citronelle; two daughters, Bonnie McNunn and Barbara Cavallo; one son, Fred Booth III; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A wake will be held from 6 to 9 tonight at Freeman Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Citronelle. Burial will be in Lambert Cemetery.
