She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Shuler, Dec. 29, 2005, and her brother, John "Jack" Hutchison. Mr. and Mrs. Shuler were married on March 6, 1948, in Washington, D.C.
She is survived by her children, Frances Shuler Holden and her husband, Chris Holden, of Milford, Conn., William T. Shuler II and Clinton H. Shuler and his wife, Joyce Shuler, all of Shenandoah; five grandchildren, Melissa Leigh Casillo and her husband, Joseph, of Worcester, Mass., Marc Holden and his wife, Kelly, of Madbury, N.H., Katherine E. Shuler of Chantilly, Va., Christina Shuler Kingsland and her husband, Christopher E. Kingsland, of Springfield, Va., and Emily Shuler of Shenandoah; and one great- granddaughter, Aniela Lee Holden.
Mrs. Shuler was raised in the Washington, D.C., area and upon graduation from high school, she attended The Mount Vernon School. During World War II, she joined the American Red Cross, where she served in the Gulf Coast Region attending to the wounded veterans. After the war, she married William Shuler, the love of her life, and together they shared many interests and enjoyed a good life, filled with family, friends, work, civic endeavors, and traveling.
Mr. and Mrs. Shuler began their life together in Arlington, Va., and then moved to Atlanta after several years. They raised their children in Atlanta before returning to Mr. Shuler's hometown of Shenandoah, Va., in 1972. In Shenandoah, they established A&B Developments, Inc. and Mrs. Shuler served as secretary of the corporation for many years. As an active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Mrs. Shuler served in many capacities. She was a charter member of the Shenandoah Heritage Center and was renowned for her wonderful meals and the "Lamplight dinners" at the Stevens Cottage. She was also an avid gardener, golfer and bridge player; and was well known for her hospitality and charity to all.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Shenandoah at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007. Burial will be private.
