Obituary

One of the county's worst traffic crashes in history claimed the lives of three Forgan women early Monday morning on Highway 83 five miles south of Liberal, Kansas, three miles within Beaver county.

Dead in the tragic crash were: Mrs. Vera ADAMS, 39, wife of Bill ADAMS, Beaver jewelry store owner;

Mrs. Fay CORDES, 47, wife of Walt CORDES, Beaver County deputy sheriff;

Mrs. Lydia FOWLER, 45, wife of Earl FOWLER.

Two of the women, Mrs. ADAMS and Mrs. CORDES, were sister, the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd NICHOLS, also of Forgan. Both grew up in the Forgan community , attending the Forgan schools, and were very active in the community.

Mrs. ADAMS and Mrs. CORDES were killed outright, and Mrs. FOWLER died shortly after being removed to the hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. ADAMS and Mrs. CORDES were conducted from the Forgan Baptist church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. Leon SEWELL, pastor officiating, assisted by Rev. Bennie KIMBROUGH, Ponca City, former pastor of the church. Burial was made in the Forgan cemetery.

Mrs. ADAMS is survived by her husband; a son, John William; two daughters, Lee Anne and June, all of the home.

Mrs. CORDES is survived by her husband.
Additional survivors of the sisters are their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd NICHOLS of Forgan; two brothers, Gene and Frank, Forgan; two sisters, Mrs. Dick RADCLIFF of Forgan and Mrs. Howard E. SMITH of Liberal, Kansas.
