Colonel. A 1916 graduate of the US Military Academy, he was initially assigned to the 22nd Infantry. He spent the early part of his career as an instructor in New York and Virginia. On Aug 23, 1916, he married Mildred Emelie Bruns (who died in 1919); they had a daughter, Emelie. In August, 1918 he was assigned to the 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division and on his way to France. He was wounded in action at Montidier Sector on May 15, 1918 and again in Meuse Argonne Offensive on October 15, 1918. In 1919, he was assigned to the Prisoner of War Division, commanding Enclosure 4 through September 4th. He returned stateside in December, 1919 and assigned to Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He married Marion Smith May 21, 1921. He continue to serve in the Army until his death in Burma during the second world war.
