Charles A. Whelan , age 77, died of Emphyasema and Pneumonia, August 18, 1990 at the Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah .
Born June 25, 1913 in Georgetown, Washington D.C., to Charles Aloysius Whelan and Catherine Elizabeth Starke. He later moved to California and worked at the Universal Studios in set design in the Los Angeles area. Married Anna Ellen Dana in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 3, 1940. He retired 20 years ago, moved to Centerville, Utah in 1983. His two sisters, Alice and Marie Whelan also moved from California to Utah to be near other family members. A veteran of World War II, he fought in the South Pacific. A member of the Catholic Church, Saint Olaf Parish in Bountiful. His hobbies were fishing and golf. He was an amatuer meteorologist and was an avid fan of weather reports and kept abreast of world events. A friend to all, he enjoyed social conversation with family members and friends.
Survived by wife, Anna Dana Whelan , one son, Charles Dana Whelan , daughter in law, Barbara Noble Whelan , six grandchildren, Cori, Scott, Catherine, Deborah, David and Kristin, a sister, Marie Whelan , all Centerville. His sister Alice, preceded him in death.
Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Olafs Catholic Church, 1800 South Orward Drive. Friends may call Russon Brothers Mortuary, Tuesday evening 7-7:50 p.m. Vigil services will he held 7:50 p.m. Interment in the Centerville City Cemetery.
