William was the oldest resident of Callaway county and one of the oldest in the state of Missouri when he died at his home near New Bloomfield. He had been born near Alexandria in Smith County Tenn. He came to Missouri with his father 10 years before the Civil War and settled on a farm near Eldon Mo. He married Polly K Vernon April 28 1854, she died April 21 1914. He farmed practically all his life except for 18 years he spent in the employment of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, He had been a member of the Grandview Baptist Church at eldon for 75 years.
