P/O Cyril William Abrey RAFVR (69490) aged 26 was the pilot of No.214 Sqn Wellington MkII W5452 BU-U which had taken off from RAF Stradishall at 1924hrs on 20th September 1941. After a successful mission, on its way back, low on fuel it was diverted to RAF Manston due to heavy fog at Stradishall. Whilst attempting an emergency landing, the Wellington crashed into trees.
