Henry was a farmer, and had worked in the cotton mills. He moved from Orangeburg County, SC, with his family, when his son Allen was 5 years old. They moved because "the water was bad, and people were dying". He was living in Grovetown, Georgia when he had a stroke and died later at University Hospital in Augusta. Cause of death was listed as Cerebral Hemorrhage.
. He was called Bybo by his grandchildren. When he was a young man, he wore two guns, one on each hip. When asked why the Sheriff of their town didn't take his guns away, he just replied quietly, "The Sheriff knew better than to take my guns." To us grandchildren, he was a sweet old man, who loved his horse named Dan, and liked a drank of whiskey now and than.
I do not know why his name is listed as J Henry on his marker instead of Henry James. I do know his son Allen said he put the year of 1886 on the marker because he was not having his father that much older than his mother, who was born in 1891. I suppose Uncle Allen changed the name around also.
Death records says Henry James, and all the mail came in HJ Darnell.

Gravesite Details

I know the marker says J Henry, but he said his name was Henry James. And he was born in 1883, not 1886. This error was made by his son Allen.
