WATAGA - Mr. Daniel Wayne Mahnesmith, 54, 545 E. Willard St., Wataga, died at 1:07 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

He was born Oct. 24, 1955, in Galesburg to Leonard and Velda G. Douglas Mahnesmith. He married Debra Pedigo. He then married Robin Mahnesmith in Wataga in 1990. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Troy (and Laura) Hensley, Tim Miller and Anthony Mahnesmith, all of Galesburg; five daughters, Lori Mahnesmith, April Miller, Lisa Miller and Lydia Mahnesmith, all of Galesburg, and Danielle (and Richard III) Carr of Cameron; two brothers, John Mahnesmith and Lenny (and Alice Pucket) Mahnesmith, both of Galesburg; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Daniel Miller; and a brother, Gary Mahnesmith.

He was a correctional officer at the East Moline Correctional Center for 20 years. He was a graduate of Galesburg High School and Carl Sandburg College. He had many hobbies that included photography, rock and gem collecting, woodworking and carving, key chain collecting, stargazing, storm watching, fishing, camping and science fiction.

He served in the Navy and was stationed in Vietnam during the fall of Saigon.

Funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel, with the Rev. Kirk Kendall officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at the chapel. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
